The name of Nyck de Vries has been heard for years when it comes to drivers eligible for Formula 1. However, the Dutchman still has no place in the motorsport class. For him, there is also a lot unclear heading into next season, he told Viaplay.

The Mercedes reserve driver has proved on several occasions in recent years that he has a lot of talent. After last season he was considered by several Formula 1 teams, but they all chose a different driver at the time.

De Vries does not dare say whether he will get a chance in 2023. "I honestly have no answer to that. That is ultimately not in my power to determine and influence," he says honestly, after which he states that he also does not know if he will drive for Mercedes next year. "In any case, I will be there for the rest of this season in the role I am in now."

Opportunity to drive first free practice

This race year, De Vries has already been given the opportunity to showcase himself in the first free practice session twice. Both Williams and Mercedes gave him the opportunity to complete a session, during which he left a good impression.

It is possible that the Dutch driver will be involved in another free practice session for the rest of the season. "If that's going to happen, it will be announced soon," he told us cryptically. The coming months will tell whether we will see De Vries in a Formula 1 team in the new calendar year.
