The Italian Grand Prix is Ferrari's big chance to restore honour. The team seems resigned to the fact that the world title will not be won in 2022, but will pull out all the stops to score a victory during the anniversary weekend in Monza. Charles Leclerc made an important first step by scoring the pole position.
Leclerc happy with starting position for race at Monza
"It's amazing," Leclerc began after qualifying. "It wasn't an easy qualifying session I knew that there was quite a bit of potential in the car but I didn't quite put it all together. I knew that in the last lap in Q3, I had to put it all together and I managed to do it."
Ferrari will be hoping to restore some of the lost pride during the home weekend in Monza and so far seem to be well on their way to doing so. Leclerc is happy with the lap he was able to set and the performance he was able to get out of F1-75. "The feeling with the car is amazing, and I just hope that we can do just like 2019 tomorrow," he continued.
Leclerc pulled out all the stops to set a perfect lap and managed to take pole. Moreover, he will start with an advantage over Max Verstappen, who will incur a grid penalty. " just took much more risks (in the Lesmos). It was the last lap and I knew that I had to find a lot of performance there. I just went for it and it worked out," he concluded.
