Toto Wolff is impressed with Nyck de Vries after his points finish at the Italian Grand Prix. As Mercedes' reserve driver, the Dutchman is well known to the team. Wolff praised his performance in the Mercedes press release.
Wolff can be satisfied after the race at Monza. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell managed to limit the damage at the fast circuit, where the W13 was not the strongest car as expected. So the Mercedes team boss is happy that a lot of points were earned after all.
"it was a question of maximising our result and doing damage limitation with Lewis. It was enjoyable to watch him fight through the pack - he looked a little bit stuck at the beginning, then once the tyres came together, he was very quick. As for George, he did everything we asked of him, and it was another faultless drive," Wolff began.

The Austrian also said he was proud of his reserve driver. De Vries, who replaced Alexander Albon this weekend, has won two World Championship points at Monza in his racing debut. It is an impressive achievement in a car De Vries has barely driven.
"Finally, a word for Nyck: he did the absolute maximum today, jumping into a car he had barely driven in FP3, then scoring two points. It showed exactly what he is capable of," said Wolff.
