Max Verstappen is on the verge of clinching his second world title in a row. Theoretically, the Dutchman could already definitively secure it in Singapore, but it is more realistic for it to happen over the coming race weekends. Anthony Davidson is enjoying Verstappen's qualities, he told Sky Sports.

At the start of the racing year, it did not look like Verstappen would have an easy time of it. While the Red Bull Racing driver crashed out twice in the first three Grands Prix, Charles Leclerc did manage to take the points. It caused Verstappen to be bitter at the time.

"He [Max] said himself after Australia that the year was done," recalls Davidson. "I didn't believe it at the time because I knew how rapid the progress would be in terms of performance gains. To him to come out after that was a bold statement and look where he is now. It shows you should never give up and the team didn't give up. They fixed the problems and look where they are now."

"He is at the top of his game, a few little things here and there such as the spin in Budapest. But he is getting close to his best. I think he knows it's likely to happen now. He will probably win it in the next couple of races. Therefore you can enjoy it a bit more and usually with that comes with better performance."

Verstappen remains relaxed under pressure

Verstappen himself seems to feel little extra pressure ahead of the Singapore GP. At the press conference, the Dutch driver revealed that he simply wants to do his best to take victory, but that he feels it is especially important to get the most out of his car.
