Christian Horner is furious over comments Mercedes and Ferrari fired for possibly exceeding the budget ceiling. Red Bull Racing's British team boss believes the two top teams should take back their statements made on Friday.
On Friday, news emerged that Red Bull may have been one of two teams to exceed the 2021 budget cap. Exactly how much money is involved is not yet clear. Toto Wolff, Mercedes team boss, and Laurent Mekies, Ferrari chief, have both responded to this to Horner's displeasure.
Horner calls statements unacceptable
Horner is furious because of the statements made by Toto Wolff and Laurent Mekies. "These are defamatory statements and absolutely unacceptable. The FIA itself says they have not yet completed their investigation," the team boss was quoted by De Telegraaf journalist Erik van Haren during the press conference.
Max Verstappen can clinch the world title in Singapore for the second year in a row, so the competitors' statements are also not unexpected according to Horner. "It is no coincidence that this is coming out, now that Max can take the title," he said.
