Schumacher responds to own crash: 'Face pretty big task'
- GPblog.com
Mick Schumacher did himself a disservice contractually, on the face of it, in Japan. The German crashed in the first free practice session and could therefore not be in action during the second practice session of the day. The German explained what happened after Friday's session.
"It was quite wet and unfortunately we had an aquaplaning moment so we lost the rear end. Now I face a pretty big task tomorrow. It's a shame because the car felt great. I hope it will still be the same on Saturday on a dry track," Schumacher is quoted by Speedweek.com.
Schumacher aims for new contract
The current world championship number 16 has yet to earn a new contract for 2023. The 23-year-old driver has a maximum of five more Grands Prix to do so, so time is running out. The best thing would be if he can catch up with teammate Kevin Magnussen in the World Championship. The difference between the two teammates is 10 points.
Schumacher, according to Motorsport-Magazin.com that he does not expect his crash to affect his contract negotiations. Whether that is actually the case will become clear in the coming weeks/months. In any case, Guenther Steiner did not sound very happy after the second free practice session at the Suzuka circuit.
