Pierre Gasly was understandably furious when he suddenly encountered a tractor on the track in the pouring rain. He was not the only one: many reactions followed from the Formula 1 paddock, including from Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner.

"It's totally unacceptable," Horner began in conversation with Sky Sports. "We lost Bianchi here five or six years ago. That should never happen. Needs to be a full investigation as to why it was on the circuit. Checo reported it to us. When visibility is zero, it's extremely dangerous."

Indignation at Horner

"The VSC was introduced for a reason following that awful accident," Horner continued. He adds that it is difficult to say why the tractor was on the track without knowing all the facts, but the Red Bull boss believes the FIA should start to properly investigate the procedure followed to allow the vehicle onto the track.

At the moment, it is unclear whether racing will take place, but the counter is running and the race will end at 17:00 local time in Japan. "Visibility is horrendous. Even max at the front is struggling to see, how anyone can see behind. It's something we need to look at in future years, whether it's the asphalt or drainage," Horner explained.

He does think F1 should take a close look at this in the coming years, though, as it is not desirable to not be able to drive in the rain. "The problem with the full wet tyre is it's a survival tyre but there's no performance," Horner said.
