Breaking: Stewards punish Gasly heavily for speeding issue with tractor
Pierre Gasly has been handed a 20-second penalty and two penalty points on his licence for speeding under the red flag during the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix. The incident was part of the most controversial aspect of the day when a tractor emerged on track in dangerous conditions.
Gasly angry
Gasly had pittled to remove an advertising board that was trapped on his front wing. The safety car came out and therefore Gasly sprinted around the track to try and catch up with the back of the pack. As he approached the tractor on the circuit, the lights went red. It would've been difficult for him to react in time for the tractor that he could barely see.
But Gasly carried on speeding under red flag conditions. The stewards report said he exceeded speeds of 200km/h at multiple occasions and once topped out at 251km/h. Gasly admitted that he was too fast.
