Newey has 'deep respect' for Verstappen: 'Made big progress'

Adrian Newey experienced another successful season with Red Bull Racing this year. The top man of the Austrian formation not only saw Max Verstappen take the world title, but also manage to lead the constructors' championship with Red Bull. According to Newey, this is mainly due to the performance of the Dutchman.
Speaking to Planetf1.com, the Briton cited the Hungarian Grand Prix as Verstappen's best race this year. Due to multiple problems with his car, according to Newey, Verstappen had to be patient to maximise his performance. It eventually earned him a victory.
Newey has great respect for Verstappen
For Newey, it is clear that Verstappen has taken a big step forward this season. Whereas the two-time world champion was sometimes restless on track in the past, the driver showed great maturity in 2022. Consequently, that would have ensured that he has the world title four races before the end.
"In the races this year, when he hasn’t been at the front, he’s shown real patience and got it there," Newey analysed. "There is deep respect to him for making that big progress, maybe two years ago he perhaps wouldn’t have done that."
