Helmut Marko is satisfied with first and third place in the Mexican Grand Prix. The team took a risk with tyre strategy, but in the end it worked out well. Max Verstappen took the record for most wins in one season with his 14th victory. Marko thinks 16 wins is possible this season with victory in the last two races.

The Mexico GP ended up being a special race for Verstappen. The polesitter drove to victory without any problems, overtaking Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher with the most wins in a single season. However, Red Bull Racing plans to win the last two races of the season as well to extend Verstappen's record.

""I think it was again a super performance of Max and Sergio. The team did the right tyre choice to start with the soft. A little bit of risk but it paid off in the end. With the medium, we didn't have a problem. Once Max was out of the slipstream of Hamilton, he was just controlling the race. It was not an easy race, but not the hardest. Two more races. I hear we have the record for the most wins in one season, so Max is alone. If he can increase, that's our intention on what we want to do," Marko told Viaplay.

Marko: 'Mercedes radio was interesting'

Mercedes opted for a different tyre strategy than Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton s team started the race on mediums and changed to the hard tyre after the pit stop, while Red Bull opted for a strategy from softs to mediums. Mercedes expected the team to have to make a second pit stop, but that proved unnecessary in the end.

"You always have to have a plan B. It was raining heavily last night so we didn't know what the degradation was but when we saw how long the soft tyre was going we didn't have any doubts that we couldn't go until the end. It was interesting on the Mercedes radio, they thought we would have to make another stop. In the form Max is in and how the team is performing [16 wins] should be possible," said the Red Bull advisor.
