Yuki Tsunoda could not finish the Mexican Grand Prix after colliding with Daniel Ricciardo. The AlphaTauri driver seemed to be heading for a points finish, but towards the end of the race that came to an end. Tsunoda calls his colleague an amateur.
In the battle for P11, Ricciardo hit Tsunoda's rear car. The Japanese driver shot into the air and crashed into the wall. His AlphaTauri sustained damage to the floor, front wing and sidepods, eventually forcing Tsunoda to park his car in the garage. Ricciardo received a 10-second penalty for the incident, but still managed to finish the race in seventh place after a strong final stint on the softs.
AlphaTauri is in contention for eighth place in the constructors' championship with Haas. So Tsunoda could have made good use of a points finish for his team. "I am disappointed that my race ended with such a stupid mistake. Daniel had a different strategy and would have easily passed me later anyway", Tsunoda is quoted by Motorsport-Magazin.com.
Tsunoda calls Ricciardo an 'amateur'
Tsunoda had his race well under control due to strong tyre management. On lap 50 of the 71, his hopes for points came to an early end. It is the fifth DNF of the season for the 22-year-old driver. "How can you think you can overtake there? What an amateur." The Japanese driver cannot believe that the experienced Ricciardo thought he could overtake that way.
