Helmut Marko looks with admiration at the level Max Verstappen has shown to the outside world this season. The Dutchman even managed to take away a record from Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel that Marko says is hard to improve on.

Until recently, Schumacher and Vettel were the driver duo with the highest number of victories in a single season. Two race weekends before the end of the season, Verstappen has already bettered this record with 14 wins achieved and the driver is keen to add more victories to his name.

"There are frankly a lot more races these days," Marko remarked in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport. "But after a few months, everyone has forgotten what the basics were. It will certainly not be easy to set that record again. And we must not forget: there are still two races to go."

Marko sceptical about budget cap

At the start of the season, the FIA introduced new regulations aimed at ensuring that the level of Formula 1 teams would be closer together in the coming years. For now, Marko sees little result from this. He therefore thinks there will always be teams that stand out.

"So far, the budget cap has not changed anything. Why should it be different in the future? You just have to develop better. Of course we suffer from having fewer wind tunnel hours because we won the constructors' championship. Now we have to do every test well. In the end, though, it always depends on the quality of the personnel."
