George Russell admitted to being in mixed emotions after Friday's qualifying in Brazil, as while the Brit secured P3 on the grid tomorrow for the final sprint race of the year, he also put his Mercedes into the gravel trap during the final qualifying session which leaves questions about what could have been.

When talking to Sky Sports in the media pen post qualifying the Briton had this to say, "I think probably mixed emotions because we were obviously one the last cars to go out in qualifying", despite being let out as one of the last cars, the young driver proved his competence in the rai as once again he pulled his Mercedes onto the front two rows.

Reaction to Kevin Magnussen's pole

Russells feels that he had such "A unique experience because on the laps the rain was failing even faster end when I got to the last corner it was a lot wetter." which adds to the positives of his achievements today. The ever-optimistic George Russell continued "Massive congrats to Kevin and Haas, this is what Formula 1 and sport is about to have some crazy results like this. P3 is a good position to start the sprint tomorrow." as he echos what a lot of the grid had to say about the Dane's first pole position in Formula 1.

Insight into gravel trap incident

Russell then reveals more of his thoughts about his trip to the gravel trap during Q3 "I wanted to do a 360 and dipped the rears in the gravel. Probably not the wisest decision I've made but we knew that the first lap was important. There should be no damage."
