Binotto sure of Ferrari titles despite exit: 'Ready to achieve high goals'
Mattia Binotto has walked away from his role as Ferrari team principal. He has resigned from the job and leaves with a heavy heart. The Swiss-born Italian has been part of the team for 28 years in various roles, and therefore a goodbye is not an easy moment.
Strong Ferrari future?
Ferrari have seen plenty of growth under Binotto's watch this season, but ultimately Ferrari were not good enough to capitalise on their strong car. Question marks have been raised as to how close Ferrari are to winning a World Championship but, in his departure notes, Binotto is confident the team will go on to achieve their highest goals.
“With the regret that this entails, I have decided to conclude my collaboration with Ferrari. I am leaving a company that I love, which I have been part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the conviction that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set. I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I’m sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish all the best for the future," Binotto said.
Binotto, who was appointed the role in January 2019, walks away himself. Going into the final rounds of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship, rumours suggested that Ferrari wanted to remove him themselves. But the team strongly denied this. Instead, Binotto felt it was the right time for himself to walk away from the paddock.
"I think it is right to take this step at this time as hard as this decision has been for me. I would like to thank all the people at the Gestione Sportiva who have shared this journey with me, made up of difficulties but also of great satisfaction," he added.
It remains to be seen who will be Binotto's replacement. But Ferrari confirmed they will be working on this immediately and hope to bring news in the new year.
