Adrian Newey was asked by Viaplay at the Red Bull Racing Home Run in Milton Keynes about his highlight of the season. Remarkably, the designer of the RB18 does not tout a specific racing moment. Newey cites the realisation of winning the two world titles as the highlight.

"It’s funny, the highlight almost was realising that we’ve done it about a week or so ago. Although we had a dominant year, there was a lot going on in the background. The sad loss of our leader, obviously then what happened as a result of that. Discussions with another engine manufacturer. The cost cap dramas. Off track as well as on track, it’s been full," Newey said.

Adding in the statistics, it seems to have been a very dominant year for Red Bulll. Newey himself, however, has felt anything but that. "Ferrari gave us a hard run and had a good car through the first half of the year. We probably had the edge in the second half of the year. It wasn’t until Singapore where we thought ‘okay we’ll have to try pretty hard to mess it up from here’", he added.

Newey is not sitting still this winter

Red Bull knows it can hardly do better after 17 wins in one season. "It’s going to be difficult to top this year of course. It’s just the attitude always amongst ourselves internally is we’ve got to critic the car. A few bits we weren’t happy with, try to improve those and do our usual winter development. And see where we are."
