The sixth stage of the 2023 Dakar Rally is causing a lot of crashes. Stéphane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz both crashed during this stage, the Spaniard seems to be able to continue.

Axe day in the Dakar Rally

The Dakar Rally's twitter channel has reported a crash involving Peterhansel. The 14-time Dakar winner crashed after 200 kilometres, even before the sixth measuring point. The Frenchman had been on the road well until then, driving the second fastest time of the stage at the fifth measuring point. However, his co-driver Edouard Boulanger was transferred to hospital after the crash, ending the 2023 edition for Peterhansel.

In the same kilometre, fate also struck three-time Dakar Rally winner Sainz. He too crashed, but seems to be able to continue his journey. Sainz is waiting for assistance to get his car running again. Sainz was also well underway with the third fastest time at the fifth intermediate point.
