In 2021, they were still fighting a fierce rivalry, these days Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton seem to get along just fine. After the British Grand Prix, Verstappen was among the first to congratulate the Mercedes driver on his victory, and the two also joked with each other in the cooldown room.

Hamilton won a Formula One race for the first time in 945 days and did so in front of his home crowd at Silverstone. The 39-year-old Briton showed his most emotional side after his victory and was joined on the podium by Verstappen, Lando Norris and race engineer Peter Bonnington.

In the cooldown room, a funny moment took place between the old rivals that was not televised. Before they headed for the podium, Verstappen and Hamilton were sitting next to each other, when the Dutchman remarked, "Hey it's been a while, huh?" Hamilton laughed and said, "Ball Hogger!", an English term for someone who always keeps the ball himself without handing it over - thus referring to the fact that Verstappen takes almost all the wins.

Hamilton therefore indicated after the F1 race at Silverstone, he has definitely put the events of Abu Dhabi 2021 behind him, although it took him a long time to do so. After his first victory in almost three years, the seven-time world champion showed his most emotional side, with the fact that it was his last home race with Mercedes whom he has been with since 2013.
