Lambiase made Verstappen angrier with radio talk: 'Stupid comments back'
- Nicole Mulder
During the Hungarian Grand Prix, fiery exchanges of words could be heard between Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase. The fact that people from Red Bull Racing went against Verstappen instead of listening to him made Verstappen angrier during an already frustrating Formula 1 race.
"It was a very bad race. Everything went wrong. The strategy was bad. We just know it's very difficult to overtake here. I just had to do that, try to fight. Lost so much time with that, even in that second stint," Verstappen told Viaplay.
"You get undercut the first time - okay, not good. This happens. And then the second time I get stuck behind again. Then you just don't get past it. Then they let me out again and then I drove into traffic with backmarkers after that too. I don't understand it at all really. It's just very bad," the Dutchman continued in what was a bad day for him and his Red Bull team.
Verstappen angry over Red Bull's 'stupid' reaction
Verstappen made his frustrations openly clear via his onboard radio. Several altercations took place with race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, whose reactions were not appreciated by the Dutchman. "[ I was angry] because again I just got stupid comments back on the radio as well," explained the Red Bull driver.
"Instead of them just trying to talk to me and maybe admit that it was not ideal, of course, that also calms me down. But then they also go against it. Yes, that's totally the last straw for me then," he adds. Asked if this was the same as normal and that the comments were made in the heat of the moment, Verstappen replied, "No, I think it was not good today."
