Verstappen and Red Bull make decision on sim racing at weekend
- Estéban den Toom
There was much to do last race weekend about Max Verstappen 's late-night sim racing. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the reigning Formula 1 world champion was racing with Team Redline until around 3.30am. At this, Verstappen received a fair amount of criticism from fans, as well as Nico Rosberg. Agreements have since been made with Verstappen about sim racing, Helmut Marko said.
The Red Bull advisor saw that things did go well in Italy, earlier this season. "I have to say this: in Imola, after a sim racing session, he did not go to bed until three in the morning - and then he won the Grand Prix. Max has a different sleeping rhythm and he had his seven hours of sleep," the Austrian explained in his column at Speedweek.
Red Bull makes agreements with Verstappen
Nevertheless, agreements have now been made about Verstappen sim racing on Grand Prix weekends, Marko said. "His late sim race at the Hungarian weekend only came about because a driver in his team had cancelled. Nevertheless, we agreed that in the future he will not drive sims that late."
Analyst at Sky Sports, Rosberg, already said he was hugely disappointed in Verstappen for racing late into the night. It was a Team Redline race at Spa-Francorchamps. The race lasted 24 hours, and Verstappen drove a three-hour stint during the night. That on the night before the Hungarian Grand Prix.
