Norris showcases his brutal side: 'Wanted the biggest lead possible'
Lando Norris dominated the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix but had to survive two heart-in-the-mouth moments on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. At one point, Norris hit the barrier while cruising with a nearly half-a-minute advantage over Max Verstappen. He also panicked about the front wing being damaged when he brushed the wall earlier in the race.
Given the situation in the World Championship, McLaren and Norris can be super dominant and still not win the main prize in December. On a weekend when Norris finally utilised the full pace of the McLaren, Verstappen ensured he was behind him. The Dutchman drove well and didn't allow Norris to take a large chunk out of his World Championship lead. It is now down to 52 points with six weekends remaining.
How Norris reacted to the Singapore GP win
"It was an amazing race. A few two many close calls. It was well controlled otherwise. The car was mega. We were flying the whole race," Norris said in his first reaction after the race.
At several moments, Norris nearly threw away the win. He was unsure whether he was over pushing or chilling too much. "It's not that you're over pushing. Sometimes, you can be chilling too much. Maybe it was both. Easy to lock the tyres," he added before showcasing his brutal side. "I didn't want to have a one second lead, I wanted to have the biggest lead possible," Norris concluded.
