Drastic decision by Red Bull seems near: Perez set to leave after Brazil?

Sergio Perez may be driving his last Grand Prix for Red Bull Racing in Brazil next weekend, GPblog has learned. The Austrian team is said to be emphatically considering this drastic decision after a string of disappointing results from Max Verstappen's Mexican teammate. After the race in Brazil, there is a three-week gap ahead of the Las Vegas GP, giving Red Bull enough time to appoint a replacement for Perez.
Red Bull Racing says through a spokesperson that nothing has changed in terms of Perez's situation. After the Mexican Grand Prix - which finished disappointingly for Perez and Red Bull - Christian Horner already hinted that a difficult decision about Perez will have to be made at some point. If the team principal and external advisor Helmut Marko do indeed decide to part with Perez, Liam Lawson seems the most logical candidate to succeed the Mexican. Reserve driver Isack Hadjar, in turn, could get the vacant seat at Visa Cash App RB.
Perez's father shares emotional post
Perez possibly getting replaced by Red Bull would also explain a mysterious post by Antonio Perez Garibay, the Mexican driver's father, on Instagram. The latter posted on a message in which - together with an old photo of Checo - he elaborates on his son's career. Perez senior talks about Sergio's first Grand Prix in 2011 in Australia and "his last race at the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix".
In his post, Antonio Perez additionally reports: "Maximum pride for the most beautiful flag in the world. Always together until the end of the story. Thank you Checo Perez, today you are the most famous Mexican on the planet. You should be immensely proud of what you have done. (...) I love you son." According to Red Bull, the post does not have anything to do with Perez's future with the team.
