Eddie Jordan thinks Liam Lawson should be in the Red Bull

Is Lawson in the wrong car? 'He's supposed to be in the Red Bull!'

31 October at 13:24

Liam Lawson replaced Daniel Ricciardo at Visa CashApp RB after the Singapore Grand Prix for the remainder of the 2024 Formula 1 season. In his first weekend, he impressed once again. The Kiwi finished in the points after starting at the back of the grid. Eddie Jordan is convinced Lawson can still move up the ranks, he said on the Formula for Success podcast.

Last season, Lawson drove a few races for AlphaTauri, replacing a then-injured Daniel Ricciardo. He impressed then as well, scoring points when Nyck de Vries and Ricciardo had failed to do so.

Should Lawson be given the chance at Red Bull?

With Lawson impressing in his short F1 career, former F1 team boss Jordan is convinced he is driving for the wrong team. "He is in the wrong car. He should be in the Red Bull car. I think we would see fireworks then. I've seen enough of him in the last few races to believe he's the 'real deal'."

Jordan continued: "Surely Red Bull have to make a decision, David [Coulthard]. You know the people inside Red Bull better than anybody, better than anyone. And you must know because you used to hound me about looking for information about Adrian [Newey]. I'm hounding you now. Do you think or do you know, is Liam Lawson going to be the teammate for Max next year? That's the question."

To this, the former Red Bull driver Coulthard replied, "Well, you're the one that does predictions. I don't have any involvement with the race team. I do some promotions and get the opportunity to slip into my race suit and go drive at public events. But I don't know what's going to happen. But all I can say is, right now, the performance from both cars isn't there. And that has to be a real concern. And therefore, if it continues until the end of the season, you've just logically got to expect change."
