Alpine have new engine supplier: Deal with Mercedes completed!
- Ludo van Denderen
Alpine's Formula One team have announced that they will compete with a Mercedes power unit and gearbox from the 2026 season, announced by the French racing team. In the 2025 season, Alpine will race with engines and gearboxes produced by Renault for the final time.
Alpine and Mercedes agreement was expected
The deal between Alpine and Mercedes had been in the air for some time after the French team decided to close its own F1 engine division. Flavio Briatore, the advisor appointed in the summer, was particularly in favour of stopping with its own power units. After these plans were leaked, it led to major protests among Renault employees. It has now become clear that they will be given a different function internally.
This paved the way for an agreement with Mercedes. That team will see Aston Martin leave as a customer team after 2025 and was always open to having this position filled by another team. That has become Alpine. In addition to the French team, Mercedes also supplies engines to its own team, Williams and McLaren.
