Hamilton avoids grid penalty after close call with Norris in Abu Dhabi
- Jeroen Immink
Lewis Hamilton has avoided a grid penalty after a close call with Lando Norris in Friday's earlier first practice session. Stewards present for the F1 race have assessed the incident between Hamilton and Norris, and this is the result.
Coming out of turn 16, the Mercedes driver drove slowly as he was not on a fast lap. Norris was preparing for his fast lap at that time, arriving at the final corner at high speed. The McLaren driver was able to avoid a collision, and instead, he locked up. Both drivers visited the stewards after the session, and they decided not to hand out a penalty.
The stewards have been busy on Friday so far. Charles Leclerc, Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto received grid penalties for Sunday's race.
