Lewis Hamilton arrived in Maranello: This is what his first day at Ferrari looks like
- Ludo van Denderen
Neatly dressed in a suit, Lewis Hamilton arrived in Maranello at the end of the morning. After a long run-up, it was finally here: the seven-time world champion started his first day of work as a Ferrari employee, which should be the prelude to a successful partnership.
The first day of his employment at the most successful F1 team in history will undoubtedly be marked by getting to know his new colleagues, a tour of Ferrari's factory and meetings. An (old) F1 car of the Italian marque, Hamilton is definitely not driving this Monday.
Hamilton gets to know Ferrari
Mercedes did not let Hamilton participate with Ferrari in the final test after last season in Abu Dhabi, although the Briton himself did not feel like it either. In any case, this means Hamilton can only really get down to basics this Monday. Early in the morning, the seven-time world champion arrived at the team's headquarters in Maranello on Via Enzo Ferrari 27. From there, he went to the Fiorano circuit, where, against the backdrop of Enzo Ferrari's house, he was received by team boss Fred Vasseur and Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna. The first photos were taken there. Also present was a Ferrari F40, Lewis' favourite supercar.
Next on Lewis' agenda was a brief visit to the building on Fiorano and the pit garage with Vasseur and Vigna. He also visited the famous office, from which Enzo Ferrari watched his team at work. Hamilton then returned to the Scuderia headquarters, where he met the management team and Piero Ferrari, before embarking on a full afternoon programme. In it, he visited all the different departments to get to know the team. Work continues tomorrow with more technical meetings and briefings.
It is possible that Hamilton will also take a seat in the simulator then. One day later, there is the likely moment when Hamilton actually takes a Ferrari F1 car onto the track for the first time. That will happen at Fiorano, the racing stable's own circuit. This will be a Testing of Previous Car (TPC), meaning an F1 car that is at least two years old.
On February 19- a day after the livery for next season is unveiled at an event at the O2 Arena in London- Hamilton will get the chance to briefly test the car for the 2025 season during a filming day. But in Hamilton's schedule, that is all still a long way off; in the time ahead, he will first get to know everything and everyone at Ferrari.
