Hamilton crashes the SF-23 at Ferrari's TPC event
The second day of Ferrari's current TPC (testing of previous car) event did not go according to plan for Lewis Hamilton. Driving the SF-23, the Briton lost control of his car and ended up in the wall. The driver was not hurt, but the car was damaged. The aerodynamic and suspension components were affected.
Hamilton lost control of the SF-23 around 11am local time during the second day of the Italians' scheduled TPC event in Barcelona. It's a normal part of the test Ferrari is conducting with Hamilton, with the seven-time world champion still needing to fully get to grips with the car after driving for Mercedes for many years. This was only the second time Hamilton was in the Ferrari, following his brief first run at Fiorano.
The 40-year-old was running during the morning session on Wednesday after driving during the afternoon a day before at the Spanish track, with teammate Charles Leclerc scheduled to appear on track later this afternoon. His session has been slightly postponed after Hamilton's crash.
The medical team were also immediately present to check whether Hamilton was okay after the incident. The new signing of the Scuderia was able to get out of his car unharmed and is okay after his crash with the SF-23. The damage to the car is now being assessed. That is why Leclerc's run this afternoon has been delayed as a result.
