After three days in Bahrain, the annual F1 test is also over for Max Verstappen. Driving his Red Bull Racing RB21, he drove 81 laps on the closing Friday, in which he recorded the second-fastest time, The Dutchman considers the ranking in a test to be of secondary importance, much more important the reigning champion felt was the progress made by the Austrian team

During the test days in the Middle East, McLaren seemed to be in a better shape. Behind the papaya team, the differences seem small; with Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull Racing appearing to be poised as McLaren's challengers. However, Verstappen himself is not yet willing to comment on what his most realistic goals for the fast-approaching season are. But the conclusion is: it is not going to be easy.

Verstappen had good day with Red Bull

"I think we had a decent day today," Verstappen said on the team's press release. "There were a few little problems but overall, we completed quite a bit of what we wanted to do. I think it wasn’t bad but at the same time there is still a bit of work to do. However, it is what we expected and we will keep on working and keep on trying to improve."

Verstappen is otherwise already looking ahead to Australia. "Hopefully, as we go into Melbourne, we will learn a bit more by going through all the data and see where we are at. It is difficult to tell where everyone’s pace is, so there is still a bit of work to do for us. We are looking forward to starting racing properly again in Australia," the four-time world champion concluded.
