'Verstappen does not have a chance of a world title in 2025'
Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes that Max Verstappen "hasn't got a chance" to win the World Championship for the 2025 season, seeing the Dutchman's run of four consecutive drivers' titles come to an end.
Verstappen earned title number four last season, but it was far from easy compared to his 2023 title-winning season. The RB20 proved a handful at many races throughout the campaign, but thanks to some masterful performances from the Dutchman, he was able to guide himself to the World Championship ahead of rival Lando Norris.
However, although Schumacher is a great admirer of Verstappen, the German knows that no matter how good of a driver the Red Bull man is, he is ultimately dependent on the car that he will get behind the wheel of. And whether Red Bull are capable of giving him a championship-winning car in 2025, Schumacher has little to no confidence in the Austrian team.
I think that was clear last year, Red Bull was strong at the beginning, but then they couldn't handle the car. But thanks to Max Verstappen the rescue came," Schumacher analyses in the Sky Sports Germany podcast.
Schumacher sees Verstappen's title run ending
The German believes Verstappen will not be able to pull off such an achievement again: "Max will get used to it, everything has to end once. That's why I don't think he has a chance. Maybe that will help in his decision on what comes next, but I think it will be difficult," Schumacher referred to a long-predicted departure of Verstappen.
Schumacher is much more confident about McLaren at the moment. "McLaren, yes, they are very far in front. They are faster in the slower corners. Before, the car didn't steer very well at the front, but they have solved that. Their front axle has improved, that must be true for Ferrari too. I'm curious," the German concluded.
