After months of waiting, it is finally race week for the first of 24 times in 2025. The season opener takes place at the iconic Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Australia. With the race closing in, the weather becomes an important factor. What will the conditions be like for the 20 drivers for the first weekend of the season, and are we expecting rain? Find out below.

This is the weather for the 2025 Australian Grand Prix:

Melbourne is 11 hours ahead of GMT, so eager fans around Europe will be getting up early to watch the season opener at the Albert Park Circuit. Lights out is at 4am GMT, with the weather in Melbourne being very different to the northern hemisphere, with warm sunny conditions expected for almost the whole weekend.

On Friday, Formula 1 cars return to action for the first time since pre-season testing in Bahrain. According to weather.com, drivers will enjoy warm conditions of 28 degrees Celcius with just a seven per cent chance of rain for the first two practice sessions.

Saturday will be another hot day in Albert Park. While it was still around 28 degrees on Friday, it could even reach a blazing 37 degrees on Saturday. Again, the chance of precipitation remains low, no higher than four per cent. Things look slightly different on Sunday, however.

Is rain to be expected?

On Sunday, the five red lights go out, and the first race of the season will begin. On 'race day', it will be considerably cooler than on Saturday. During the race, it will be around 26 degrees. That means a temperature drop of 11 degrees Celsius between qualifying and the race. This could have an effect on the tyres as well as the grip from the track surface. The chance of rain is a lot higher, at around 76 per cent. So, in terms of weather conditions, too, there is an interesting weekend ahead.
