Norris storms to pole position, Ferrari and Hamilton only on the fourth row

Lando Norris has won the first qualifying session of the 2025 season in Australia. His lap time was a 1:15.096. Oscar Piastri finished second, while defending champion Max Verstappen rounded off the Top 3 at the Albert Park track.
After the first set of runs in the final session, Max Verstappen led, however, the McLarens managed to fight back to be on the front row of the grid. The Dutchman eventually finished in P3, ahead of George Russell.
Yuki Tsunoda finished in P5, Alexander Albon finished in P6, while the Ferraris have to settle for the fourth row of the grid, in the order of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Pierre Gasly was the better Alpine in P9, while Carlos Sainz finished tenth at his debut event with Williams.
Q2
Hamilton spun on the final lap exiting Turn 10, and therefore, and caused a yellow flag. The Briton avoided the wall, and managed to qualify to Q3. Isack Hadjar performed the best out of the rookies, but he did not make it through. Together with the two Aston Martins, Mick Doohan and Gabriel Bortoleto were eliminated. The Australian had to deal with traffic on his final lap, while the Sauber driver made a mistake

Q1
After causing two red flags already, Oliver Bearman’s weekend did not improve in qualifying, as he had issues with shifting into fourth gear. The Briton was unable to set a lap time. The other Haas car, Esteban Ocon was also knocked out, similarly Nico Hulkenberg.
Two drivers in frontrunner cars failed to make it through to Q2 as well. Liam Lawson finished in P18 after missing FP3 and going wide on multiple laps, while Bortoleto knocked Andrea Kimi Antonelli out on the final lap
