Honda to bring "Spec 2" engine to Baku!
This is exciting news for Red Bull and Toro Rosso! Honda have revealed that they will be introducing a new version of their internal combustion engine (ICE) to all four cars this weekend in Azerbaijan!
All four Honda cars have scored points already this season, a positive sign for the manufacturer, and the second spec engine is set to improve reliability as well as performance.
Honda’s technical director, Toyoharu Tanabe said in his pre-race preview: “We will introduce the Spec 2 version of our internal combustion engine (ICE) across all four cars right from the start of the weekend.
“One of the reasons for bringing it to this race is that we found that Daniil Kvyat’s PU problem in China was down to a quality control issue. The main benefits of Spec 2 are improved durability and life and better reliability. It also offers a slight improvement in performance.”
Red Bull are already lagging behind Mercedes and Ferrari, with Toro Rosso down in ninth, off the pace in the battle for best of the rest. Perhaps this upgrade has come at just the right time for both teams…
