Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt has revealed that Ayrton Senna had wanted to race with Ferrari.

The legendary Brazilian would end up settling for Williams for the 1994 season before tragedy struck Formula 1 at Imola 25 years ago to the day, and the sport lost one of the greatest racing drivers of all time.

The FIA president revealed that Senna had contact with him in regard to a drive for Ferrari at some point however the Italian team couldn't sign him due to existing contracts with Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi.

"He wanted to come to Ferrari and Ferrari wanted him," Todt recalled to Auto Bild Motorsport.

"I had a long meeting with him in 1993 and I was fascinated by the sound of his voice. He spoke very slowly and extremely clearly."

After the initial meeting between the two, Todt called the Brazilian about an offer to drive for the famous Scuderia, however, Senna was already set on another destination.

"I called him again to make him an offer for 1995, but he declined as he had already decided on Williams."
