The number 8 Toyota of Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima have won a very hectic 6 Hours of Spa, as the Toyota eventually won the race at Spa Francorchamps a lap ahead of the field.

To put it mildly, it was an interesting race. The drivers were confronted with a wide variety of downpour: hail, rain and even snow. The race was broken up by four safety car situation - twice a yellow flag that counted for the full course and a red flag in the last 11 minutes of the race.

The number 7 car of the Toyota team was ahead with a 50-second lead. However, this ended dramatically when the team was confronted with a broken brake sensor. The car of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez had to pay an extra visit to the pit lane. Eventually, the number 7 Toyota finished sixth.

Thanks to the strong finish of the team of the number 8 car, the crew with Fernando Alonso is at the top of the drivers' championship. They have a 31-point lead. During the last race of the WEC season at Le Mans, 39 points can be achieved, so although Alonso, Buemi and Nakajima aren't guaranteed the title just yet, they are the heavy favourites now (if they weren't already).

It was previously reported that Alonso will stop in the WEC after Le Mans. A victory would be a nice ending to the Spaniard's WEC career.
