Mercedes took a dominating 1-2 in FP1 at Circuit Paul Ricard earlier today, leading Ferrari and Red Bull, so heading into FP2, can either of the two challenges fight back or are Mercedes just too good? Liveblog below.

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap time, continuing his excellent form recently, which has seen him victorious in the last three races and take a 29-point lead in the championship over teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Last year at Paul Ricard it was a Mercedes 1-2 once again, so the Silver Arrows have form here. Sebastian Vettel will be hoping for a better run this time out, his clash with Bottas at turn one and subsequent penalty was the beginning of his downfall last year, and coming off a low in Canada, he will really hope this weekend can be a turning point for him.

The midfield battle is also shaping up nicely, with McLaren and Renault looking the fastest of the midfield here. The two have also broken away from the pack in the midfield, and if the race at the front is a bit boring on Sunday, it could be worth watching out for what's going on for the lower points paying positions.
