Hamilton brings humour to the press conference: "You don’t know me"
Lewis Hamilton never gives up. Following a true champions mentality, the Formula 1 world championship leader fights for anything he can get his hands on. A journalist questioned whether he'd settle for not winning in Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix. Hamilton's response produced plenty of smiles at the press conference.
Hamilton was asked if he'd consider backing off because he already leads the world championship and doesn't need the fight.
"You haven't been here long, have you? I don't think you know me," Hamilton replied with laughs from the other journalists in the room. "Those of you who know me well, know me slightly better. I would say no, of course. I try to have a balanced approach between aggression and conservative and of course I will be pushing for the win tomorrow, that’s ultimately always the goal and it should be nothing more and nothing less.
"As I said, it’s not going be easy to get close to be passing the Ferraris. I think they’ve been very very quick all weekend but of course, I will be giving it absolutely everything. I don’t like ever settling for anything but first."
Hamilton will start the race from P4 despite getting a three-place grid drop from second. Therefore, the Mercedes driver will also need to overtake Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen before he can get his hands on Charles Leclerc.
