Memories of Austria meant Leclerc "didn't hold back" in British Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc stepped onto the podium for the fifth time in his Formula 1 career at Sunday's British Grand Prix. The man from Monaco provided plenty of entertainment for those in the crowds at Silverstone because of his battles with Pierre Gasly. Leclerc says memories of Austrian meant he didn't "hold back".
In Austria, Max Verstappen got the better of Leclerc. The 21-year-old Ferrari driver seems to be picking up the lessons quickly and now he understands how aggressive he can be.
"In a way, I have to say that what happened in Austria allowed me to understand how aggressive I can be in the race and I didn't hold back. It was also a good fight with Pierre: to overtake him I had to be daring because he was very quick down the straights," Leclerc told the media after the race.
Leclerc benefitted from Sebastian Vettel's crash with Verstappen. The Dutchman looked likely to finish on the podium, but it wasn't to be. But it's clear Red Bull have closed to the gap to Ferrari. Leclerc knows what improves his team must make moving forward.
"From a technical point of view, I think we need to further improve our race pace and how we manage the tyres because today we struggled a bit," he added.
