Nico Hulkenberg: "We need to up our game"
Nico Hulkenberg says that Renault need to improve on the whole in the second part of the 2019 season if they are to avoid a disappointing end to the year.
Renault were set to battle it out with McLaren for fourth place in the constructors' standings, a position the French team held last year, but whilst McLaren have gone from strength to strength, Renault have seemingly gone backwards.
Seven points between Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo in the past four races is not a statistic to be proud of for the team, and the German knows it must improve.
He said in Renault's press release following the Hungarian Grand Prix: “It was a difficult afternoon for us today. We struggled with the car, with an engine control issue from the beginning of the race, which meant I lost consistently three tenths a lap.
That made things tricky and we just didn’t have the pace to progress into the points. It’s a good time for a break. As a team we will regroup, think a few things over because we need to up our game in the second part of the season.”
