Zak Brown set to meet Fernando Alonso about the driver's future
McLaren boss Zak Brown has revealed that he will discuss Fernando Alonso's future with the driver at the Italian Grand Prix in a few weeks time. As time progresses Alonso returning to Formula 1 is looking less likely but there are still options for the Spaniard to race in other series. However, it has been reported that the two-time world champion has no interest of racing in IndyCar full time.
"I have to say he has not shown interest in the full season so far," Brown is quoted by Spain's El Confidencial.
"But I think his desire to win the Indy 500 is undiminished. He is aware of our Indy project and we will talk about it at Monza."
McLaren will be wanting Alonso to drive their car for the full IndyCar season and will hope to convince him that it is a good decision.
"He would be very well received, he would enjoy it and knowing the way he drives, I think he would be very successful," Brown said.
With driver line ups for 2020 starting to be confirmed, there are few seats for Alonso if he did want to make his return. Perhaps racing in IndyCar is one of the only options he has left.
