Marko believes a Verstappen podium is guaranteed if the first laps go well
Helmut Marko is back into his confident mood. He's adamant Max Verstappen will be on the podium after the Italian Grand Prix. He's very optimistic, and even more so as the flying Dutchman will be starting from the back of the grid after taking an engine penalty.
Fitted with Honda's new PU and the chance of rain, Marko is confident Verstappen will be able to fight through the field.
“The advantage for Max is clear. If it rains hard, he can start from the pit lane and we adjust the downward pressure on the rear of the car," Helmut Marko tells Motorsport-Magazin.
But even under dry conditions, Marko expects Verstappen to come far forward. “I believe that Max can participate in the front if the first laps go well. On my own strength, I think that a podium is possible anyway."
The only major problem experienced by Honda this season is the starts. The new-spec 4 engine, which Verstappen will use around Monza, is expected to solve this issue.
