Toro Rosso boss not expecting Alex Albon return
Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost says that he believes Alex Albon will stay at Red Bull in 2020 after making an encouraging start to his career at the team.
Albon made his F1 debut at this year's Australian Grand Prix for Toro Rosso and impressed immediately, scoring points in Bahrain and China, leading to the Thai driver being favoured over Daniil Kvyat for promotion when Red Bull decided Pierre Gasly wasn't performing enough.
Wins are not expected from the youngster immediately, and his start has been encouraging, recording fifth and sixth placed finishes, having started at the back in Belgium after engine penalties, and being caught up in the madness of Q3 in Italy.
Tost was asked by Reuters whether he believes Albon would return to Toro Rosso, to which he replied: “Unfortunately I think he’s gone, but you never know what’s going on in Formula One."
However, Tost says that he is pleased when a product of Toro Rosso makes the move up to Red Bull, adding: “I would complain if Red Bull was taking drivers from the outside.
“Then we would have a serious problem. As long as our drivers are good enough, it’s fine. I am more than happy about this. I feel well if a driver goes to Red Bull Racing and wins races. That’s the best. Then we know we did our homework.”
