Max Verstappen: Red Bull “have more to come” after Friday practice

Max Verstappen has said that he and Red Bull “have more to come” after a successful Friday practice saw the Dutchman finish top in FP1 and just under two tenths off Lewis Hamilton in FP2.
With FP1 running in the afternoon in Singapore and not under the lights conditions are different to that of the race, with the cars going a bit slower but Verstappen came out on top of the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel.
Red Bull have performed well at the Marina Bay Street Circuit over the past few years thanks to their car suiting the downforce nature of the track, with the car going quicker again in FP2.
But the Dutchman feels he could still go quicker having been interrupted by traffic on his qualifying run.
“It was a good day. We are competitive and the car was working really well in both practice sessions,” Verstappen said.
“I had traffic in the last sector on my qualifying simulation and I only improved by two tenths compared to the hard tyre run, which means we have more to come.
“I think we look strong on long and short runs but of course, Lewis also looks very fast.”
Looking ahead to qualifying Verstappen believes the race is 95 percent determined by qualifying position because of the difficulty to overtake around the streets.
“It’s not an easy track to understand and it is very bumpy out there but with a competitive car it’s really enjoyable to drive,” he added.
“There are always things that can be improved which we will look at now and this race is 95 percent about qualifying and I’m feeling positive so far.”
