Rosberg: "It will be very difficult for Leclerc to stay ahead"
Ferrari and Charles Leclerc surprised the Formula 1 world by qualifying on pole. He's now clinched his fifth pole position, the most out of any F1 driver on the grid during the 2019 season. But Nico Rosberg doesn't expect the 21-year-old to keep the field in his mirrors during the race.
Despite winning the last two races in Spa and Monza, Ferrari weren't expected to perform well due to the track characteristics. But Rosberg points out Ferrari's long-run pace from Friday practice.
"Leclerc has the best chances for the race tomorrow, but only because it's difficult to overtake on this track. Because if you look at the long-runs from Friday, Ferrari were quite a long way off the Mercedes pace, sometimes up to half-a-second per lap which is huge," Rosberg said in his now-famous vlog.
"Maybe this [Ferrari's] new aerodynamic package will help them a lot, we'll have to wait and see, but still Lewis is going to be flying in the race. It's going to be very very hard for Leclerc to stay in front during the race. Also with the strategy."
