Sebastian Vettel was "surprised" to come out ahead of Charles Leclerc
Sebastian Vettel says he was surprised to see Charles Leclerc in his wing mirrors following the pit stop phase as he managed to undercut his teammate Charles Leclerc to take victory in the Singapore Grand Prix.
Vettel took his first victory in over a year at the Marina Bay Circuit in a brilliant drive, but the win won't be without controversy, as Leclerc felt he deserved the win having taken pole and led in the early stages.
Vettel told David Coulthard after the race: "It was a very late call, I thought it was a bit early.
"Then I just gave it everything in the out lap because I saw the cars in front of me not pitting, especially Lewis.
"I was quite surprised a lap later to come out ahead."
Vettel continued and said that it wasn't his call to pit: "Just the corner before, like 21, I received the call. I don't know if somebody pitted or the gap was big enough, but for me it worked today."
