Albon gets a mixed report from Marko for performances so far
Alex Albon has had a mixed start to life at Red Bull showing flashes of potential especially when it comes to moving through the field but he is yet to really challenge the top five drivers. Helmut Marko praised the rookie but insists there is still work to do.
Alex Albon replaced Pierre Gasly at Red Bull having driven for Toro Rosso for the opening half of the season. He made his debut at the Belgian Grand Prix finishing fifth despite taking a grid penalty and he has gone on to record two sixth-place finishes and another P5 in Russia.
However, Albon crashed out of Q1 in Sochi hindering his potential for the race. Marko believes Albon has impressed so far but his practice and qualifying sessions need to improve.
"He has performed well all races so far," Marko told ServusTV.
"The training sessions in Sochi didn't go so well.
"I think he had too much confidence and it went wrong. But he was great during the race and what he showed was certainly a good one recommendation.
"It goes without saying that we need two strong drivers for 2020 so that we can again take the lead in the constructors' championship. That is the solution we need."
