Carlos Sainz on racing Alex Albon: "He didn't pass me on speed"
McLaren have been blisteringly fast this season and are comfortably the 'best of the rest.' Carlos Sainz has really impressed fans and pundits and often finds himself racing the Red Bulls for 5th or 6th place.
At the Japanese Grand Prix Sainz was battling with the Red Bull of Alex Albon and the McLaren driver thinks that they had a similar pace.
“My speed was good at the start of the race and the strength of our package became clear when Albon couldn't pass us on the track, but only through a pitstop. I could have parried his undercut but we decided to keep driving longer,” Sainz said to the official F1 website.
"The moment I heard that Charles was driving towards me quickly, I picked up my speed again and I kept a hole on the Ferrari with which I forced him to force, so that his tire wear became too much and he had to change them."
McLaren keep looking stronger each race weekend and Sainz will hope that this continues and that he can challenge for a World Title before too long.
