Verstappen trusts Red Bull to make him a champion
Max Verstappen says that he still believes Aston Martin Red Bull Racing is the place to be for him to become world champion, despite his recent criticism of the team. Verstappen has won seven Grands Prix with Red Bull Racing, but has never been able to mount a serious title challenge with the team, and will be entering his fourth full year with the squad next season.
The 22-year old may still be young, but he has had to watch Charles Leclerc, and F1 novice compared to him, overtake him in the championship standings due to the improvement of his Ferrari team, whilst Red Bull Racing's season has stagnated.
Whilst the Dutch star was once in sight of second place and looking likely to overtake Valtteri Bottas, he may now be looking over his should at losing fourth place, with Sebastian Vettel only behind him due to Verstappen having more victories.
However, Verstappen believes Red Bull Racing have everything they need to make him a champion next year. He told media including RacingNews365: “I believe I can become world champion with Red Bull-Honda.
“Clearly we did not start the season well in recent years. If you want to be F1 World Champion, then a strong start to the season is very important. However, I do believe that, as a team, we can get to that level.”
“Red Bull has of course already won four consecutive world championships in the past. This year we have entered into a new partnership with Honda and that simply takes time.
“That’s why we really have to show what we have next year, and we’ll see from there."
