Wehrlein on F1 future: "I'm happy in Formula E"
Former Manor and Sauber driver Pascal Wehrlein says that he would be open to driving for the rumoured Campos Racing team that plans to join F1 in 2021, although he says that he is happy where he is in Formula E. Last month, plans were announced for a new Spanish team to join F1 for 2021, with Wehrlein and Alex Palou tipped to be their drivers, although the plans are still up in the air.
Wehrlein recorded a best finish of P8 in his two seasons of F1, and impressed in his first year of Formula E with Mahindra, scoring P2 on just his second start, where he was unlucky not to take the top step of the podium.
Formerly part of the Mercedes young driver program, the German is considered unlucky not to be in F1 given his impressive stint in 2016 and 2017, but a return might not be too far away if this new team does follow through with its plan to join.
The 2015 DTM champion told Autosport: "But I don't know what's going to happen - 2021, let's see.
"I'm open for everything - so obviously if the opportunity would be there and would be a great opportunity I'm very open for it.
"I'm not thinking about 2021 [yet]. We haven't even started [the] 2020 [season], so I'm just focussing on that. And then let's see.
"But also, I'm very happy in Formula E. I want to be competitive, I want to be able to fight for the lead positions and that's a big priority.
"I had two good years in Formula 1 - it was fun, but in the end, it was not the same feeling as for winning a race."
