Lewis Hamilton hints he wants an acting career after Formula 1
Lewis Hamilton is within touching distance of securing his sixth Formula 1 world championship title. The 34-year-old has another year left on his Mercedes contract, but his future in F1 in 2021 and beyond is up in the air. In a recent interview, Hamilton has revealed he wanted to be apart of the new Top Gun movie but couldn't take part because of his busy F1 schedule.
Recently Hamilton has been busy promoting his vegan diet after opening a vegan burger restaurant in London. He was also an executive producer on The Game Changers documentary about vegan athletes. The Mercedes driver also runs a fashion business with Tommy Hilfiger.
But now, Hamilton could be plotting a new adventure post his Formula 1 career.
"I was trying to get in Top Gun because I'm a massive fan of Top Gun, but I didn't have time to do any filming. But I had an opportunity to do it and I couldn't do it," Hamilton said in an interview with ESPN.
"I do want to do it. I auditioned for a movie a while ago and it took one day to learn the role. I had a fashion show in Paris, and I probably had maybe four or five shows to go to, so in between I quickly changed and saw this [acting] coach, and I saw her for 20 minutes and we quickly went through one part and then I went to a show and came back and went through another part. By the end of the day, I had to record a video to send it to Los Angeles -- it was so cool!"
"But I didn't get the part -- it was a big part! There was no way I was going to get this part, I think. Someone like Kurt Russell got it -- well, not Kurt Russell, but someone who works alongside him. I knew I wasn't going to get it! I definitely don't have time for movies [right now]. I don't know if I am ever going to be good at movies, but I'll give it a try."
With the 2020 season featuring 22 Formula 1 races, there's going to be less time to get busy outside of Formula 1. Will the prospect of a future acting career push Hamilton away from F1, or will the sight of Michael Schumacher's world title record keep him in F1 for longer?
