Jos Verstappen believes Ferrari's fuel issue was not an accident
At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ferrari were fined $50,000 for a fuel irregularity in Charles Leclerc's car. Mattia Binotto has insisted that it was a mistake but Max Verstappen's father, Jos Verstappen, doesn't think that a team like Ferrari could possibly do something like that accidentally.
"You know that this was not a calculation error," Jos told Ziggo Sport. "Ferrari does not just make such calculation errors. It is a sensitive subject in Formula 1, I do not want to burn my fingers on it. Next year, however, the rules really need to be tightened."
Binotto has claimed that it was a difference in measurements. With around 4kg more fuel found compared to what Ferrari said this seems unlikely.
"I don't think there's much to explain, there has been a discrepancy between measurements," Binotto said.
"We believe that our measurements are correct. I think there is one measure which is not, but it's in their hands.
"We're happy on our side to understand and happy to go in detail, but it's not part of our discussion, our decision. So we are simply waiting as you are."
It has been a season to forget for Ferrari and they will hope to come back in 2020 ready to right their wrongs.
