Alfa Romeo Racing boss Frederic Vasseur says that Mick Schumacher is currently not scheduled to test for the team during the 2020 season, encouraging him to focus on his Formula 2 championship.
Schumacher, son of legend Michael Schumacher, is signed onto the Ferrari Drivers Academy and will be entering his second F2 season in 2020, having finished 12th this year.
The German tested for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari during 2019 but the Swiss team are currently without any plans for the 20-year old.
“There will be no additional tests next year,” Vasseur told Blick.
“First of all, Mick has to win Formula 2 or perform well. But that is incredibly difficult under his conditions and the pressure. Along with Ferrari, we are following his path and his progress.”
Alfa Romeo have retained their driver line up for 2020 despite concerns about Antonio Giovinazzi’s future up until it was confirmed the Italian would stay after his up and down season.
“Ten years ago, teams waited until February to announce their drivers,” Vasseur added.
“We were never in a hurry, so we were able to keep the pressure on the team and on Antonio.”
“I have to answer with a glass half full and half empty,” he said of Giovinazzi’s season.
